Chinese Language Beginner Course Level 1 (Online Class)DescriptionA 10 week Beginner Chinese course for all students, staff and general public from week beginning 13 January to week beginning 17 March 2024. Mondays from 6.15pm to 7.45pm online. For beginners with no prior knowledge. Learners will learn basic phonetics and tones and use about 200 words around the following topics: greetings, countries, nationalities, occupations and family members. The course will cover Discover China book 1, units 1-3. To make progress during the course you will need to allocate at least 3 hours per week for revision of each class and learning characters.
Chinese Language Beginner Course Level 3 (In-Person Class)DescriptionA 10 week Beginner Chinese course for all students, staff and general public from week beginning 13 January to week beginning 17 March 2025. Thursdays from 6.15pm to 7.45pm at Lancaster University Confucius Institute (The Roundhouse). For those who have learned around 400 Chinese words. The course content will be from Discover China book 1, units 7-9 on the topics of time, shopping and directions. To make progress during the course you will need to allocate at least 3 hours per week for revision of each class and learning characters.
Chinese Language Beginner Course Level 4 (In-Person Class)DescriptionA 10 week Beginner Chinese course for all students, staff and general public from week beginning 13 January to week beginning 17 March 2025. Chinese Language Beginner Course Level 5 Review class (hybrid class)DescriptionA 10 week Beginner Chinese course for all students, staff and general public from week beginning 13 January to week beginning 17 March 2025. Wednesdays from 6.15pm to 7.45pm at Lancaster University Confucius Institute (The Roundhouse) and online. This class is a review of Discover China book 1 and will cover Chinese character learning to prepare learners for Discover China book 2. Chinese Language Intermediate Level 3-4 Course (in-person class)DescriptionA 10 week Intermediate Chinese course for all students, staff and general public from week beginning 13 January to week beginning 17 March 2025. This course will cover Discover China book 2, and content will be taken from units 7-12 on the topics of food, shopping, scenery, appearance and illness. Chinese Language Upper-Intermediate Level 1 Course (In Person)DescriptionA 10 week Upper-Intermediate Chinese course for all students, staff and general public from week beginning 13 January to week beginning 17 March 2025. Thursdays from 6.15pm to 7.45pm at Lancaster University Confucius Institute (The Roundhouse). This course is for learners with a good knowledge of Chinese language and characters. This course will cover Discover China book 3 textbook, units 1-3 on the topics of college courses and requirements; books, libraries and book reviews and assignments, quizzes and deadlines. To make progress during the course you will need to allocate at least 3 hours per week for revision of each class.
Confucius Institute- Tai ChiDescriptionFridays, 12.15-1.00pm from 10 January to 21 March 2025. The class will take place at Garstang Arts Centre. Please note that the class will NOT run on 24 January and 28 February 2025. To register for this class you must be a member of the Garstang Arts Centre. If you are not currently a member of the Arts Centre, please contact Garstang Arts Centre: https://garstangartssociety.org.uk/contact In addition to the membership fee to Garstang Arts Centre, there is an additional fee of £3 per week for the Tai Chi class. This fee is paid to Lancaster University Confucius Institute to help cover the costs for the class. There are public buses available between Lancaster University and Garstang.
