Combined 2017 conference of CeMoRe, T2M and Cosmobilities Network, 2-5 November 2017, Lancaster House Hotel, Green Lane, Ellel, Lancaster, UK LA1 4GJ

This exciting conference recognises the global uncertainties of the Anthropocene and will reflect on utopia (and dystopia) explore how societies shape, and have been shaped by, complex im|mobilities, from microbial to big data mobilities, from horse-drawn carriages to driverless cars, from migration to planetary jet streams.

The conference fee includes refreshments during each working day plus the banquet on Friday 3rd November. Evening meals on Thursday and Saturday are not included but can be booked individually below or delegates can make their own evening arrangements. There are several eateries on the university campus.

Conference Rates:

* Reduced Fees are available for: Students, activists, artists and retirees; and participants coming from 'lower income' and 'lower middle income' countries as defined by the World Bank , inc. all Latin American countries.  You will be required to provide proof of status.

** To qualify for the T2M member rates you must first be registered as a member of T2M. Become a member and get registration discounts along with a choice of journal subscriptions here.

Evening Meals:

There is a banquet on Friday 3 November in the hotel which is included in the conference fee. In addition, you can purchase the following;

Thursday 2nd November – Dinner ticket £34.95

Saturday 4th November – Buffet ticket £25.00

The Full pack includes Thursday and Saturday dinners

Cancellations received before 2nd August 2017 will be issued a refund minus an administration fee of £50. It is highly unlikely we will be able to refund costs after this time.

Refunds shall not be payable for any total or partial failure of performance by the conference organisers of their duties and obligations under this Agreement occasioned by any act of God including but not limited to fire, flood, drought, tempest; act of government or state, war, civil commotion, insurrection, blockade, embargo, prevention from or hindrance in obtaining any raw materials, energy or other supplies, interruption of utility service, labour disputes of whatever nature including but not limited to strike, lock out or boycott; fuel shortage, disruption to transportation services or facilities, and any other reason beyond the control of the conference organisers.

T2M C2C: Mobile Utopia Sunday Excursions

Description

On Sunday (5th November), there are three excursions to choose from.

Option 1 - A6/M6 and Forton Services (£40)

Professor Peter Merriman (author of Driving Spaces: A Historical Cultural Geography of the M1) will conduct a circular bus tour of the A6/M6 between Lancaster and Preston taking in the monument to the Preston By-Pass (Britain’s ‘first motorway’) and Forton Services with its iconic Grade II listed tower. This stop will include a short walk to a nearby motorway bridge for views. The trip will also include an illustrated talk. Lunch is not included. Delegates will have the opportunity to buy their own lunch at the newly refurbished restaurant with the view of the motorway.

Option 2 - Lancaster Transport History Walk (£35)
Dr Vivienne Tabner will guide you on a fascinating 5 mile walk through Lancaster City Centre to the beautiful eighteenth-century Aqueduct over the River Lune, returning via a walk along the canal towpath. The tour will take in several of the City’s historic bridges and three railways station – two of which are now defunct – as well as St George’s Quay with its rich maritime history. Lunch included

Option 3 - 'Wordsworth Walk’ in the Lakes (£50)

Professor Simon Bainbridge will take you on one of his celebrated ‘Wordsworth Walks’ in the Lake District, starting and ending at Rydal Water and lunching at Grasmere. The walk will be themed around the idea of mobility and utopia, both of which were central to the everyday lives of William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy. Lunch included

This special event complements the exhibition 'Boomtown - From Front Line to White Lund' at Lancaster City Museum until 12 November. Speakers include Chris Workman, Steve Irwin, Simon Phillipson and Corinna Peniston-Bird; the event will also feature 'BLASTED' - a performance and film project to mark the cententary of the White Lund explosions, a roundtable discussion on the role of the Fire Services in the response to the explosions and a chance to visit the exhibition and handle artefacts. We are pleased to acknowledge the support of the Sir John Fisher Foundation, the Army Museums Ogilby Trust, the Trustees of the King's Own Regimental Museum and the Friends of Lancaster City Museum: their generosity has enabled a subsidised enrolment fee to be offered for this event.
