Graduate College Day Trip to the Lake District - Saturday 23rd September

Graduate College Day Trip to the Lake District - Saturday 23rd September

Description

Pick up from the White Cross Bus stop opposite the RLI at 7.45am and Pendle Avenue at 8am.

Windermere and Bowness

A wonderful chance here to explore this Lakeside resort and if possible to opt for the steamboat trip and experience the lake. Tickets can be bought either at where we get off, or at the lakeside itself, again use your student ID to get a reduction. Some options for trips are: either the island tour, Lakeside where there is a steam train, though the best option is to get the island tour cruise. Also at Bowness is the Beatrix Potter Museum, which is rather interesting and you can buy cuddly toys for children etc. You also have plenty of shops to buy sale products such as coats, boots, hats and jumpers for the winter months as it will be very cold and wet. Best chance to get them now and at sale prices. If needing advice on this, ask Davey (trip leader).

Cream teas are a great indulgence while at Bowness, with the large hotel near the lake doing some smashing traditional cream teas, or quite a few cafes.

Ambleside

A smaller and less commercial version of Bowness, with better scenery, the chance to walk up to the waterfall (see map). If you get chance walk down to Waterside, and experience the lake, and feed the swans, but be careful, they can get a bit upset. As with Bowness, chance to get some shopping in, but the prices a bit better, and in all cases ask if they do student discount when buying anything. Some of the pubs and the hotel do great traditional meals, such as steak and ale pie, fish and chips etc., and if you do drink ask for the recommendation from the barman on what ale they recommend. If you want to try some great food in Ambleside, then try the famous Lucy’s which has some local food to try.

The village also claims to have the smallest house in England, and it was built on a bridge, you will also find a few nice little walks down by the Lake if you fancy some exercise.
